Individual Therapy
50 mins | $230
I provide individual therapy for clients aged 18 years and older. Sessions are 50 minutes long and are offered in person or online.
Therapy process
My therapy approach is practical and collaborative. The therapy process involves an exploration of your current difficulties, including associated thoughts, feelings, and behaviour. As well as discovery into past events that may have contributed to your current day difficulties. Together we then identify goals of therapy and develop a plan on how we will achieve these, using evidence-based methods. Therapy is not a quick fix, and the change process is not typically linear. Therapy requires effort, both in and outside of session. Like most things in life, the amount of effort you put in, will directly influence your results.
It is usually recommended that a client initially attend sessions weekly. This can be extended to fortnightly closer to therapy completion.
Areas of interest
Acute and complex trauma (e.g., PTSD).
Shannon specialises in working with individuals who continue to experience the effects of a past traumatic event. The word ‘trauma’ is often associated with extreme, often life-threatening events (aka big T events). However, this is not always the case as trauma is subjective and personal to the individual. Research has shown that less severe events, particularly if repeated over time, can impact us more than extreme events. Smaller trauma events (aka small T events) could include bullying, parental separation, experiences of rejection or neglect, or racism. While these events may not seem as significant as big T events, they can have significant impact on a person's emotional well-being. If you are experiencing mental health difficulties currently, it is important to recognize and address historical traumas to promote healing and recovery.
Anxiety concerns
Anxiety is one of the most common mental health presentations, with approximately one in every four Kiwis affected by it in their lifetime. While it's normal to experience some worry or apprehension from time to time, excessive anxiety can interfere with your daily life and overall well-being. If you feel that anxiety is getting in the way of you living your life, seeking psychological support can help. Therapy can assist you in identifying the root causes of your anxiety and address these in session. While also providing practical tools to manage its effects on your daily life
Cancellation Policy
Power Psychology requires 48 hours’ notice for cancellation of an appointment. If you cancel your appointment within 24-48 hours of appointment time, an $80 fee will be charged. If you cancel your appointment within 24 hours of the appointment time, the full session fee will be incurred. This is due to the therapist being unlikely to fill your spot at such short notice.
